FAQ of Resolution Test Target
1. What coating is used on this resolution test target?
The target uses a 5 µm silver-bromide coating produced by laser drawing. An optical resolution target can be specified with an OD of 4–4.5 for fully black areas, providing very low transmission and strong contrast under backlight illumination.
2. Why does this resolution test target require backlight illumination?
The film base provides more than 83% transmission across 400–700 nm and is designed for transmitted-light testing. A uniform backlight helps an image resolution test chart maintain consistent brightness and contrast across the complete imaging area.
3. Can this resolution test target include grayscale and gradient patterns?
Yes. Black, grayscale and gradient patterns are available. When a resolution test chart contains fine gradients, interaction between the target pattern and camera pixels may produce moiré. The design should therefore be tested at the intended magnification and working distance.
4. How does target size affect the minimum feature of this resolution test target?
A size up to 1 × 1 m supports a minimum feature of 15 µm, while the 1.3 × 2.6 m format supports a minimum feature of 30 µm. When specifying a large resolution target, the required size and smallest feature must be evaluated together. The listed feature accuracy is ±10 µm.
5. Which film thickness should be selected for this resolution test target?
The available film thicknesses are 0.1 mm and 0.175 mm, both with a tolerance of ±0.01 mm. The thicker option is easier to handle and keep flat, while the thinner option fits compact assemblies more easily but requires better surface support.
6. Can this resolution test target be laser-cut into custom shapes?
Yes. The film supports straight-edge cutting, custom outlines and round-hole cutting. Laser-cutting tolerance is ±0.01 mm, and holes as small as 0.1 mm can be produced. Keep critical test patterns away from the cutting edge and mounting holes.
